About Our Department

Establishment: The Department of English started its journey in 1989, the year the institution was established. The department introduced Honours course from the year 1996.

Teachers: The department of English has 20 teachers. Among them there is 1 Professor, 4 Associate Professors, 6 Assistant Professors and 9 Lecturers in 2015.

Tours: The department arranged study tours and picnics in Lalmai hills in Comilla, in Nahar garden in Manikgonj and in various others places.

Seminar library: There is a seminar library of the department right beside the departmental office on the 8th floor of the academic building-2.

Establishment: The department of Management started its journey from the first day of the college. As a compulsory subject in the field of business studies, Management is very important in the higher secondary level. The department began to offer Honours Course From 4th May 1995. Masters part-1 course was introduced on 26 November 1995.

Teachers: There are 10 Associate Professors, 4 Assistant Professors and 5 Lecturers in the department in 2015.

Students: A total of 1165 student enrolled in 21 batches in Honours program upto the 2014-15 session. And 342 students enrolled in Masters final program in 16 batches.

Seminar library: The seminar library of the department is on the 6th floor of academic building 1. There are 3636 books in this library.

Management week: A Sports, cultural and literary program was held from 31 August 1996 on the occasion of the management week.

Seminar: The first seminar at the departmental level in the college was organized on 11 September 1996. In the seminar the key note paper was presented by Md. Nurul Alam Bhuiyan, a teacher of the department and another teacher of the department, S M Ali Azam was the core speaker.

Publications: The first departmental magazine of this department, also the first departmental magazine of the College, ‘Management Concept’ was published on 31 August 1996. Other publications include “Simanta Periye” a souvenir of the SAARC tour of Honours 3rd year students in 1997, ‘Chaya Path’ souvenir of the SAARC tour of 1999, ‘Dur Digante’ souvenir of the SAARC tour of 2000 and ‘Souvenir 2002’ souvenir of the SAARC tour of 2002. Besides, ‘Smriti’ a souvenir album, was published by the M com Final students in 1999.

SAARC tour: SAARC tour was for the Honours students in 1997, 1999, 2000 and 2002.

Picnic: All the teachers and the students of the department participated in the departmental picnics held in the National park in Gazipur, Nuhash palli, Savar Dairy farm and Dream Holiday park in Narsingdi.

Study tour: Students of different sessions, under the supervision of the teachers, organize study tours in Cox’s Bazar, Saint Martin, Rangamati, Bandarban, Sylhet, Gazni and in many others places.

Establishment: The department of Accounting was established in 1994, though Accounting was being taught in the higher secondary classes since 1989. Students were enrolled in Masters in 1994-95 session.

Teachers: There are 20 teachers in the department including 10 Associate Professors, 4 Assistant Professors and 6 Lecturers in 2015.

Students: Since its beginning the department has enrolled 1260 students in Honours and 357 in Masters in 2015. Nusrat Jahan Monty has the unique feat of being the first Honours student of the department. Meghla Thakur has the same status in Masters.

Seminar library: There is an air-conditioned seminar library serving the teachers and the students of the department.

Tours: With a view to providing knowledge outside the text book, the department organizes study tours every year under the supervision of the teachers. On various occasions study tours have been arranged in Cox’s Bazar, Saint Martin, Kuakata, Sylhet, Srimangal, Madhobkunda, Dhaka EPZ, Moinamoti, Coatbari, Bongabondhu Bridge, Rabindra Kachari bari, Rangamati, Bandarban, Khagrachori, Gazipur, Moherra Police Training Academy in Tangail and so on. Tours have been made to India and Nepal as well.

Accounting week: The department of accounting organized ‘Accounting week’ in 1996. Eminet novelist Dr. Humayun Ahmed inaugunated this week. In 1996 the department also organised annual prize giving ceremony and feast of the department. Professor Md. Moinuddin Khan, Professor of the department of Accounting, University of Dhaka was thechef Guest in this program.

Seminar: In 1996 the department organized a seminar with the theme “ Importance of Book-Keeping In Day to Day Life” where the key note paper was presented by Md. Jahangir Alam Sheikh, teacher of the department and the core Speaker was the then Vice Principal, Professor Md. Mutiur Rahman.

Establishment: The department become operational from 5 May 1990. Dhaka Commerce College is the first institution to offer Honours and Masters Courses in Marketing under National University in the 1995-96 session.

Teachers: At present the department has 10 teachers including 1 Professor, 4 Associate Professor, 1 Assistant Professor, and 4 Lecturers.

Marketing day: The department organized ‘Marketing Day 2001’ for the first time on 19 July 2001. Seminar, meritorious students’reception, cultural program, publication of Wall Magazine, and photography exhibition were held on this occasion. Beside a magazine titled ‘Marketing Update’ was also published. Unwrapping of the souvenir of the Marketing Day made the program all the more attractive.

Tours: The students of the the department organize study tours every year. The places they have visited include Cox’s Bazar, Saint Martin, Coatbari, Bongabondhu Bridge, Rangamati, Bandarban, Modhupur in Mymensing, Gozni in Sherpur, Savar , Nahar Garden in Manikgonj, Uttara Ganobhaban in Natore, Bangladesh Agricultural University, The Padma Resort in Munshigonj, Satchari in Habigonj, Sylhet and so on.

Establishment: Department of Finance and Banking was established in Dahaka Commerce College in 1995. Though initially the department was known as ‘Finance’, later it was named as ‘Finance and Banking.’ The department is located on the 11th floor of academic building 2.

Teachers: There are 14 teachers in the department and 10 of them are ex-students of the same department. There are 2 Associate Professors, 4 Assistant Professors and 8 lecturers in this department in 2015.

Activities: The department arranges study tours in home and abroad every year and students of different sessions take part in these tours. The department has also published some magazines including a few wall magazines.

Seminar library: There is a rich seminar library in the department containing nearly 3000 books of local and international publishers written in both Bangla and English in 2015.

Alumni: Finance and Banking Alumni Association (FBAA) was established in 2011 with a view to connecting the ex students and organizing different constructive and welfare activities. The alumni association, in collaboration with the department is distributing warm clothes among the poor every year. The alumni organized reunion, picnic, ifter party and others program.

Establishment: Economics was a compulsory subject in the higher secondary classes right from the beginning. When the government decided to keep Economics as an optional subject in the Business studies group, Dhaka Commerce College retained Economics as the 3rd/ 4th subject. And the subject is still taught in the higher secondary level at this institution. Honours and Maters courses in Economics were introduced in Dhaka Commerce College in 1997-98 sessions.

Teachers: There are 6 teachers in the department including 2 Associate Professors, 3 Assistant Professors and 1 Lecturer in 2015.

Tours: The department organizes study tours about every year in different attractive locations and visits various industrial establishments.

Wall magazine: A wall magazine titled ‘Mukti’ was published on the occasion of Independence Day in 2006.

Alumni: The ex students of the department formed the alumni association and organized a reunion on 1 March 2013. A souvenir was published on this occasion.

Establishment: Initially the name of the department was Statistics. Inclusion of Computer as a subject in 1998 led to its naming as the Department of Statistics and Computer. As the honours courses in Statistics included mathematics and business mathematics, the name was again changed to Statistics, Computer and mathematics in 2007. The Honours course in Statistics under National University was introduced in 1997.

Teachers: The department has 15 teachers including 1 professor, 7 Associate Professors, 2 Assistant Professors and 5 Lecturers in 2015.

Activities: Since its inception, the department has been organizing Iftar Parties for teachers, celebrations on different occasions and internal training programmes.

Establishment: Department of Social Studies was established on 5 September 2015 combining Geography (higher secondary level) and Sociology, History & Political science (Honours level).

Chairman: Maosufa Ferdousi joined as the Chairman on 7 September 2015.

Teachers: At present the department has 1 Professor, 2 Associate Professors and 2 Lecturers in 2015.

Establishment: The 4 year Professional BBA Program under the Department of Business Administration (DBA) was introduced in the 1997-98 session.

Teachers: The academic activities of the department are run by a director and 17 other teachers of different departments.

Activities: All the classrooms are equipped with internet linked multimedia projector. Besides, the departmental seminar library provides a rich collection of local and international publications along with internet access for the students. The college and the department regularly organizes freshers’ reception, study tour, get-together, sports and cultural program in 2015 for the students of the BBA Program. Among the current students there are 66 students in the 6th batch and 90 students in the 7th batch in 2015. As a part of their study tour program the students of the 6th Batch visited Asian Textiles Ltd. at Narayagonj and the Folklore Museum and Historic Panamnagar at Sonargaon in 2015.
