Prof. Dr. Kazi Fayz Ahamed

About the Vice Principal (Acting)  

Professor Dr. Kazi Fayz Ahamed joined the post of Vice Principal (Acting) of Dhaka Commerce College on 20th October 2024. Prior to joining the post, he was the Director of MBA Program and the Director of BBA Program at Dhaka Commerce College. Professor Dr. Kazi Fayz Ahamed started his career in teaching with his appointment as a Lecturer in Management at Dhaka Commerce College on 28th July 1997. He was promoted to the post of Assistant Professor on 1st January 2003. Later on, he was promoted to the post of Associate Professor on 1st March 2009. Dr. Kazi Fayz Ahamed was promoted to the post of Professor on 1st July 2017. Besides, he was deputed to the Department of Business Administration where he could add diversity to his career graph. He also acquired the experience of a tutor of PGDM Program under the School of Business of Bangladesh Open University and BBA Program under the School of Business of the same university.  

Along with his mainstream professional duties, Professor Dr. Kazi Fayz Ahamed performed several other distinguished duties: he was a member of the Governing Body of Dhaka Commerce College as a Teachers’ Representative, an Editorial Board Member of Dhaka Commerce College Journal, an Academic Council Member, an Academic Committee Member and an examiner of various public examinations. Moreover, he was a head examiner and a member of different examination committees of National University Bangladesh. He was a resident teacher at the dormitory of Dhaka Commerce College. Students made glorious results under his supervision: several students were placed in the merit list of the Dhaka Board of Intermediate and Secondary Education along with the first position during his tenure of that responsibility. Moreover, he was the founder Professor under Officer of Dhaka Commerce College BNCC Platoon. His leadership quality bought glorious results for the college: three cadets from Dhaka Commerce College BNCC Platoon were sent to participate in the celebration of India’s Republic Day consecutively three years. It is mentionable that those cadets underwent various competitive tests and came out successful under the leadership of Professor Ahamed. Besides, as a student of the University of Dhaka, he was a BNCC cadet of Ramna Regiment, and he was honored with a scholarship as a successful cadet.

Besides, as an enthusiast of his subject, Professor Dr. Kazi Fayz Ahamed added distinguished feathers to his professional cap with mentionable higher degrees throughout the uphill trajectory of his career. Born on 24th March 1973 in the village Panpara under Ramgonj Upazila of Lakhmipur District, Professor Dr. Kazi Fayz Ahamed, son of Kazi Akhtaruzzaman and Hasmoten Nesa, possesses a brilliant academic and research career. Professor Ahamed obtained his Doctorate Degree in 2011 on job satisfaction of bank employees in Bangladesh. His M Phil Degree that he obtained in 2004 pivoted on credit management of Grameen Bank. Both the higher degrees were conferred on him by the University of Dhaka. Dr. Ahamed completed his MCom and BCom degrees from the Department of Management of the University of Dhaka. As a student of Dhaka College he passed his HSC Exams from Commerce Group and SSC Exams from Science Group from Panpara High School, Lakshmipur.

Professor Ahamed took part in various training programs. He was one of the participants in a five month long program titled ‘Future Leaders, Designing Institutional Change and Improvement Enhanced Containing Professional Development Series’ conducted by the University of Nottingham, Malaysia Campus. He was identified as the team leader with distinction among all participants in the training program. He attended several international conferences arranged by prominent universities. One of them was arranged by the University of Dhaka where Professor Ahamed could enjoy the company of Professor Philip Kotler who spoke on inspiring the future mind. Apart from the above mentioned programs, he attended many other distinguished academic programs: most mentionable among them are concerned with quality assurance and accreditation in higher education arranged by Bangladesh Accreditation Council, a five day long training program on basic ICT organized by the Ministry of Education, Government of the People’s Republic of Bangladesh, a program on applied research methodology in business arranged by Bureau of Business Research, University of Dhaka. He availed himself of attending another training program concerning research techniques in social sciences organized by Bureau of Economic Research, University of Dhaka. To fulfill his interest in research, he attended some other training programs arranged by some reputed institutions and organizations like SPSS for professionals, researchers and students conducted by Department of Statistics, Biostatistics and Informatics of the University of Dhaka. With his thirst for learning, Professor Dr. Kazi Fyaz Ahamed took part in English language courses conducted by the Department of English, University of Dhaka; it is mentionable that he was placed first in the courses. Moreover, his ongoing process of enlightening himself inspired him to attend a training program on creative questions related to principles of business and practice; the program was organized by the Ministry of Education, Government of the People’s Republic of Bangladesh. In the same way, Professor Ahamed’s zeal for learning encouraged him to take part in a program of training regarding income tax practitioners organized by National Board of Revenue, Government of the People’s Republic of Bangladesh. He also took part in an international conference on sustainable development through cross border cooperation held at Bangladesh University of Business and Technology. To sharpen his career personality, since his joining the college, Professor Ahamed attended all teachers’ orientation and training programs organized by Dhaka Commerce College. In some of them, he presented his research papers on different aspects of teaching career. 

His contribution to academic writing includes a huge body of books and articles. A relentless seeker of knowledge, Professor Ahamed has widened the scope of higher studies for learners of various layers of higher studies by writing 7 books of his subject. He coauthored books titled Fundamentals of Management, Advanced Banking and Insurance, Business Organization and Management First Paper, Business Organization and Management Second Paper, Business Studies, Principles of Management, and Introduction to Business. Besides, up to this stage of his career, he has authored more than fourteen research articles in various reputed journals. Some of them deserve particular mention: ‘Job Satisfaction: A Comparative Study of Public and Private Sector Commercial Bank Employees in Bangladesh’ published by Dhaka University Journal of Management, ‘Job Involvement among the Commercial Bank Employees in Bangladesh: A Comparative Study between Public and Private Sector’ published by Jagannath University Journal of Business Studies, ‘Labor Unrest in Ready Made Garments Sector: An Empirical Study in Dhaka District’ published by Journal of Science and Technology, Mawlana Bhashani Science and Technology University, ‘Evaluation of Determinant Factors for the Purchase Decision of Mobile Sets in Bangladesh: An Empirical Study’ published by The Cost and Management, Journal of the  Institute of Cost and Management Accountants of Bangladesh and so on.

Along with his academic excellence, Professor Ahamed possesses an enthusiastic zeal for social duties too. He has been a life member of Dhaka University Alumni Association and a member of Management Net of the same University. He has also been a life member of Lakhmipur Zila Somity. Moreover, he has been the executive member, convener and founding president of different institutions, social organizations and programs. Besides, Dr. Ahamed has traveled several countries of the world including Saudi Arabia, India, Nepal, Bhutan and Thailand.

Professor Dr. Kazi Fayz Ahamed was recognized for his outstanding contribution to the academic arena both as a student of higher studies and as a teacher: the University of Dhaka conferred a scholarship on him for his glorious results. Moreover, Dhaka Commerce College honored him with a gold medal.
