Dhaka Commerce College celebrated the Martyred Intellectuals Day with due solemnity on 14 December 2019. The students, teachers and staffs of the college led by the Principal Professor Md. Shafiqul Islam joined a morning rally and offered reathr of flowers at the Martyred Intellectual Memorial. Vice Principal Professor Dr. Abu Masud and the convener of the Martyred Intellectual Day Celebration committee SM Ali Azam were also present among the others. The students joined the morning rally chanting slogans in favour of freedom with festoons and banners containing photos and details of the martyred intellectuals.
It is to note that on 14 December 1971, on the eve of the ultimate victory of the War of Independence the Pakistani invaders along with their alleges in this country killed the eminent personalities of this country including educators, doctors, lawyers, journalists , engineers, poets, writers and the resources. They did their planned killing to paralyse the country and to wipe out the scholars. They killed the scholars brutally in the dark of the night, putting blindfolds on them . This is the most heinous crime in the history of the world. According to the information of Banglapedia the martyred intellectuals were 1111 in number including 991 teachers, 49 doctors, 42 lawyers, 13 journalist, 9 artist- waiters, 5 engineers and 2 others.
